Product description from the manufacturer

The most common algae in garden ponds

And their fight

Fadenalgen

Thread algae generally need good water quality and usually develop slowly. They occur free-swimming and float through the pond as large mudflats, but also as thread-like tufts that attach themselves to the bottom, plants or furnishings.

Suggested products:

Tetra Pond AlgoFin und Tetra Pond AlgoClean.

Instructions for use:

Make sure that you have sufficient KH and therefore a good “pH buffer” in your garden pond. Tetra Pond WaterStabiliser is used to control the increase in carbonate hardness and to stabilize the pH value. This improves living conditions and supports the fish during treatment.

Signs

  • Form light green, cotton-like structures on the surface / brownish-green tangles of threads in the water
  • Grow preferably in warm, shallow water areas
  • Can be easily rolled up and removed

Floating algae

Basically, there is no such thing as a completely clear pond. However, if the color becomes so strong that you can only see a few centimeters ahead - i.e. you have a real "green soup" in your garden - you probably have an algae plague.

Suggested products:

Tetra Pond AlgoFree und Tetra Pond AlgoRem.

Instructions for use:

Make sure that you have sufficient KH and therefore a good “pH buffer” in your garden pond. Tetra Pond WaterStabiliser serves for a controlled increase in carbonate hardness and to stabilize the pH value. This improves living conditions and supports the fish during treatment.

Signs

  • Predominantly single-celled organisms that live finely distributed in the water
  • Make the water appear cloudy, greenish in color
  • Multiply very quickly under favorable conditions
  • Consume a lot of oxygen overnight

Prevent algae growth

Prevention through proper feeding

Only feed as much as your fish can eat in 3 to 4 minutes. Afterwards, always remove all leftover food.

Reduction of light incidence

Some natural substances, such as peat or straw, contain tannins and humic acids that inhibit the growth of algae. Recommended product: Tetra Pond UV Booster.

UV filter against green pond water

If there is an algae plague caused by floating algae, it may make sense to use a UV clarifier, also known colloquially as a UV filter. The Tetra Pond UV Booster improves the performance of UV clarifiers after algae control.

Test water every 2 weeks

Different influences trigger various biological and chemical processes and change the water quality. Regular checking of the water values is therefore recommended.
